Victoria Physiotherapy Group is excited to offer Real Time Ultrasound; a safe, effective and non-invasive tool in the assessment and management of common musculoskeletal disorders.
What is Real Time Ultrasound?
Similar to Diagnostic Ultrasound, Real Time Ultrasound involves the use of a hand-held probe which when applied to the body produces an image of the region on a screen. By using specialised settings and the transmission of high frequency ultrasonic waves, both you and your therapist are then able see your muscles contracting in real time.
Real Time Ultrasound in the Physiotherapy setting is mainly used to image the core or stabilising muscles of the spine and pelvis which includes (but is not limited to) the pelvic floor and lower abdominals. Assessment using Real Time Ultrasound not only shows whether the desired muscle or muscles are working but it also gives an accurate picture of the timing, quality and endurance. Visual feedback using Real Time Ultrasound has been to shown to be critical in the early stages of learning and retraining optimal muscle activation.
Who would benefit from Real Time Ultrasound Assessment?
Real Time Ultrasound assessment can provide valuable information for anybody looking to start (or are already undertaking) an exercise program, and is considered complimentary to our Clinical Pilates service.
Listed below are some of the conditions we highly recommend assessment using Real Time Ultrasound for, but this does not exclude healthy bodies from using Real Time Ultrasound to enhance their body awareness, function and performance;
